O'Reilly's second have goal turned into the
game-winner as SUNY New Paltz edged the Kean University field
hockey team by the final of 3-2 Saturday afternoon.
In the non-conference matchup, Kean falls to 9-5 while New Paltz
improved to 9-4.
The Hawks broke through first with a goal in the ninth minute as
Alex Gallo corralled the loose ball off a keeper save and
found the back of the cage through traffic. Kean tied things
up as Marissa Robinson fired from the top off the
arc on a penalty corner pass from Chelsea
Mann. New Paltz would add one more right before the
break as Deirdre O'Neill tipped in a strong shot
from Dani Ackerman, giving the Hawks a 2-1 lead at
halftime.
O'Reilly added insurance, with an assist from
O'Neill at the 51:03 mark. The Cougars closed the
deficit to one as Mann (pictured left) fired a low liner that got
pass the defense in the 64th minute.
Junior Katie DiCarlo made eight saves for Kean
while Alayna Wageman recorded four in the win for New
Paltz.
Kean continues their homestand and faces off against NJAC foe
The College of New Jersey on Tuesday evening.
