Union, N.J. (11/1/14) – The Kean University men's soccer team won their first home NJAC tournament game since the 2006 season by edging Richard Stockton College by the final of 1-0.
With the win the Cougars (12-7-1) advance to take on #1 Montclair State University on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in semifinal action.
The two teams were no strangers to each other, as Richard Stockton (11-5-5) shutdown Kean by a 4-0 mark just over a week ago. It was the Cougars turn in this matchup for the shutout win as the game's only score came in the 24th minute. Rookie Sevag Kherlopian, Kean's leading scorer, took a through ball from junior Richard Zapata up the left side past a defender and around the keeper. He (pictured left) then pushed the ball past the goal line along with a last ditch effort from another defender.
In a tight physical matchup, the Cougars were forced to play a man down in the 68th minute after a red card. Kean responded with an extra defender and the defense held up as senior goaltender Nick Pavlichko made an impressive seven saves with the Stockton surge.
