WAYNE, N.J. (2/12/14) – Senior Kyle Latorre set new season highs with 13 points and a remarkable 16 rebounds, but it was not enough for the Kean University men's basketball team as the Cougars fell to William Paterson 65-41 on Wednesday night.
Paterson, currently second in the NJAC standings, sports an 18-5 record and is 12-4 in the conference, while Kean moved to 12-11 and 8-8 in the league. Kean can clinch a playoff berth with a win in either of its two remaining games.
Both teams had trouble shooting in the first half, combining to make less than one-third of their field goals. In the second period, however, the Pioneers turned their shooting performance around; it was the difference as they pulled away while shooting 52 percent in the final 20 minutes.
William Paterson was led by Sandy Burgos and Jaques Conceicao, who both scored 13 to match Latorre (pictured left) for the game lead.
Latorre's 16 boards were the most any Cougar has posted this season. He and Xavier Fuller (6p/9r) helped Kean win the rebound column 40-37.
Up next, Kean will play a pivotal NJAC game at Montclair State University at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
