No. 14 Men's Volleyball Splits; Takes Set from Defending National Champs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (2/8/14) – The No. 14 men's volleyball team swept away Daniel Webster College 3-0 and took the opening set 28-26 against No. 4 Springfield College in a good showing on Saturday evening in Massachusetts. Ed Jedziniak had 21 kills in the two matches, including 10 against the defending national champions from Springfield.

Against the Pride, the Cougars won an epic opening set 28-26 to take a 1-0 lead in the match. John Cunningham broke a 26-26 tie with an emphatic kill and then served the set point as Kean put a scare into Springfield. The Cougars swung .286 in the first set.

Springfield asserted itself and won 25-11 in the second. After that setback, the Cougars continuously improved but were not able to catch Springfield; they fell 25-17 and 25-21 in the final sets.

Against Daniel Webster, the Cougars had great success, swinging .306 as a team over the entire match.

Josh Haimann (pictured left) had 23 assists in the match to lead the team, while Damian Bargielski and Krzysztof Kucza combined for 15 kills. Bez Arslani and Kyle Farley had two aces each in the match for Kean, and the team was credited with a remarkable 24 blocks.

The Cougars won each set by a comfortable margin, holding Daniel Webster to 59 points in the three sets.

Kean will open up Skyline Conference play against New Jersey City University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
