Women's Lax Dominates Second Half in 20-5 Win

UNION, N.J. (3/8/14) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team outscored The College at Old Westbury 10-0 in the final 30 minutes of its 20-5 matchup with the Panthers on Saturday. Julie Knodt and Jordan Blanda both scored four goals for Kean in the contest.

The first half was tighter than a first glance may suggest. The two teams split the first six goals of the game, and the Panthers were still within one with 11 minutes to go in the first. But Kean scored five of the period's final six goals to pull ahead and double up Old Westbury at the break by a count of 10-5.

Maggie Brocklebank scored two of those final five goals, secured a hat trick in the first half and had an additional three assists for six first-period points. Samantha Gnapp started the scoring for the Cougars, and she and Knodt (pictured left) both had a pair of tallies in the first. Blanda and Shelby Wallace also found paydirt for Kean in the opening 30.

In the dominant second period, the defense allowed just two shots while the offense piled up its 10 tallies. Ciara Mastrodomenico began the surge 45 seconds in, and five other Cougars joined in before the final horn sounded.

In an illustration of dominance, Kean was a perfect 14-for-14 in clear attempts and took 82 percent of the shots in the game.

The Cougars will travel to Troy, N.Y. to take on the Sage Colleges on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
