Rowan Pulls Past Baseball, 8-2 in NJAC Tournament

Glassboro, N.J. (5/2/14) – Junior Ryan Easterday tossed a complete game to lead Rowan University past the Kean University baseball team by the final of 8-2 in NJAC Tournament action on Friday.

Easterday (4-1) allowed two runs, one earned, and seven hits in the complete game effort.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, the Profs struck first with a solo shot off the bat of Mark Benak who found the jet stream to right.  Rowan added two more in the second with an RBI infield single from Connor Grant and a bloop RBI single from Ryan Pavlik

Trailing 4-0, Kean erased the shutout with two runs of their own in the fourth.  Senior Joe O'Connor led off the frame with a triple into the gap.  After sophomore Sal Taormina reached via a misplay near the mound and senior Nick Zucchero was hit by the first pitch he saw, it was Ryan Kelley who drove in the first run with a single through the hole.  Senior Tyler Smarslok lofted a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.

Rowan (30-10) keep plugging away and added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-2 lead.  The Profs used an RBI groundout, RBI single, RBI sacrifice fly and wild pitch to bring across their four runs.

Sophomore Ryan Reitmeyer and Kelley each had two hits for Kean (29-11).

Kean will now face #1 Rutgers-Camden in an elimination game on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. at Rowan University.
