GLASSBORO, N.J. (9/20/14) – The Kean University men's soccer team got a rare double-assist goal in the first half of its 3-1 defeat at Rowan University on Saturday night. It was the NJAC opener for both teams. Kean is now 4-3-1, while Rowan rises to 5-3.
The Cougar goal was the first one of the contest and the only score of the first half. With less than 10 minutes on the board, Kean took its only corner kick of the half. Robert Barrera served it to Kelvin Flores to the top right-hand side of the box. Flores immediately fired the ball at the net, and while it was on its way Santiago Roncal tipped it past the Prof keeper for his second goal of the season. After going his first two years at Kean scoreless, Roncal (pictured left) now has two goals in two weeks.
The Cougars took the 1-0 lead to halftime, but in the second the Profs scored three goals on eight shots to hand Nick Pavlichko his first loss of the season. He is now 3-1-1 after making five saves on Saturday. Kean outshot Rowan 7-5 in the first but managed just two shots in the second. The Cougars did attempt more corner kicks (4-2) in the game, however.
Kean will return home on Wednesday for a non-conference matchup with Vassar College on the East Campus at 4 p.m.
