Women's Soccer Streak Stopped at Six

Union, N.J. (9/20/14) – Rowan University used an early penalty kick goal and a late insurance goal to push past the Kean University women's soccer team by the final of 2-0 in the NJAC opener for both teams.

The loss snaps a six game win streak for Kean (6-2, 0-1 NJAC), in addition to five straight shutouts.  The win gives Rowan a 6-2 overall mark as well, 1-0 in the NJAC.

Graduate student Deandra Turchi converted what would be the game-winner in the 22nd minute as she and Kean keeper KC Nunez collided on a loose ball in the box.  The Profs were awarded the PK opportunity when the foul was called, and Turchi turned that into a 1-0 advantage with a liner to the left.  The score would remain that way until the 80:25 mark as senior Erika Suhl sent a hard shot into the goal that bounced off the post and in for insurance.

Nunez stopped eight shots in the loss while sophomore Carleigh Trivino made one in the shutout win.

Kean continues NJAC action on Wednesday when they travel to Richard Stockton College for a 7 p.m. matchup.
