Men's Soccer Scores Five to Sail by George Fox

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (9/7/14) – The Kean University men's soccer team scored five goals on its way to a 5-1 victory over George Fox University on Sunday. It is the most goals scored by the program in exactly one year to the day, when the Cougars (2-2-1) topped Ursinus College 5-1 on September 7, 2013.

Five different players scored for Kean in the match. Kevin Olaya began the onslaught in what was actually a tight, otherwise scoreless first half. His successful penalty kick put the Cougars on the board at 22:37 and gave Kean the 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Andrew Reina sent a long pass into the box for Kenny Rocha, who shot from 15 yards out and hit the twine for the second goal of the game.

But the match really opened up in the final 10 minutes. First, Santiago Roncal went top shelf for an unassisted goal at 81:23, then Patrick Foley set up Santhy Montufar from 15 yards out three minutes later. At 87:10, Robert Barrera netted an unassisted goal from the left side as Kean exploded for three goals in less than six minutes. Roncal's and Montufar's goals were the first of the upperclassmen's careers.

Cougar goaltender Nick Pavlichko just missed a shutout by less than a minute as the Bruins (1-2) were able to score with 27 seconds on the clock. He made three saves to earn the win.

Kean will return home on Saturday to face University of Mary Washington at 1 p.m.
