Women's Soccer Posts Third Consecutive Shutout

Newport News, Va. (9/7/14) – The Kean University women's soccer team improved to 4-1 with their third straight shutout as they topped Christopher Newport University, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in the Captains Classic.

The loss is the first of the year for the host as CNU falls to 2-1-1.

Kean would get on the board with their first shot of the contest, in the 40th minute of play. The Captains defense saw a pass deflect backwards through the middle of the field, where Emily Jurcsek ran through for a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper. After a long run, Jurcsek converted for her first career score.

In the second half, the Cougars added insurance just over ten minutes into the frame. Senior Sam Marchetti collected a loose ball down the left side and lofted a high-arcing shot from a tough angle into the right side of the goal.

Junior keeper KC Nunez (pictured left) stopped six shots on the day as the Captains put offensive pressure on with an 18-4 advantage in shots and 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Cougars return to action on Wednesday when they entertain the University of Scranton at 7:30 p.m.
