Treadwell records Fifth Double-Double for Women's Basketball

UNION, N.J. (1/10/15) – In a game that was tied with four minutes to go, the Kean University women's basketball team fell to Rowan University 75-64 in NJAC action on Saturday afternoon. Kean shot 49 percent from the field, and Jazmine Davis and Najha Treadwell scored 23 and 22 points, respectively, for the Cougars.

Kean lept out to a 9-0 lead, behind Davis' six points during the run; the Profs took 6 field goals before making their first shot. Rowan climbed back into the game, however, getting to within one midway through the first half.

Davis (pictured left) showed off some great post moves in the first half, and reached double figures with seven minutes to play in the opening period. But around the same time, Rowan took its first lead of the afternoon on a traditional three-point play from Summer Crilley.

Treadwell finished the first half with 15 points, which led both teams, but it was the Profs who carried a two-point advantage into the break.

On the first possession of the second, Jaquetta Owens fed Davis underneath the basket to tie the proceedings at 34. On the next trip down, the teammates repeated the play to knot the game once again.

With Kean trailing once more, Treadwell converted an old-fashioned three-pointer to take a 40-39 lead with 16 minutes to go.

Midway through the period, Mikeera Brown hit a 10-foot jumper to swing the lead back to Kean a final time. Overall the game featured eight ties and 11 lead changes. The Cougars engineered a 10-2 run after that bucket, and extended their lead to seven points.

Rowan fought back to tie the game at 61 with four minutes left, and the Profs scored the next seven points to pull away. Kate Matthews and Kaitlin Schullstrom led the visitors with 13 points each.

The Cougars were paced by Davis and Treadwell in the scoring column. Treadwell posted the fifth double-double of her freshman season with 11 rebounds. She and AnnaRose Pierre both had a pair of blocks, while Owens swiped the ball four times and racked up a career-high eight assists.

Rowan is now 10-3 on the year and 6-1 in the NJAC, while the Cougars moved to 8-6 and 3-4 in the league.

The Kean squad will host The College of New Jersey on Wednesday at 6 p.m. inside Harwood Arena.
