GLASSBORO, N.J. (10/16/15) – Rowan University – which is receiving votes in the NCAA Top 20 poll – topped the Kean University field hockey team 5-2 in NJAC play on Friday night.
The Cougars hung tough, especially in the first half. At the break the score was just 1-0. Jenna Pressler's marker for the Profs at 22:05 was the only goal in the first 35 minutes.
10 minutes into the final period the floodgates opened up. Rowan scored two quick goals, but Marissa Robinson answered with an assist from Krista LaMaina at 50:32. But Rowan got another goal on a penalty stroke to make the count 4-1.
With less than 10 minutes to go in the game, Jordan Colna set up Raykena Brown (pictured left) for Kean's second score of the night. But Johanna James ended the comeback threat, scoring for Rowan one minute later to seal the Prof victory.
Shauna LaMaina had a defensive save for the Cougars to help keep her side in the game.
The Cougars are now 12-4 and 1-3 in the NJAC. Rowan improved to 10-4 and a perfect 3-0 in the league.
The field hockey team will return home on Tuesday to take on NJAC foe Ramapo College at 7:30 p.m.
