Kean had seven steals in the first quarter as they doubled up Rutgers 20-10. Owens drained a three-pointer in transition after theft, and picked the Scarlet Raptor point guard clean a different time and took it in all the way for an uncontested layup.
The Cougars stared the second quarter on a 16-0 run to seemingly put the game out of reach. Camden did not score until 3:45 remained in the period and trailed 41-16 at the break.
Unexpectedly, Camden scored 30 points in the third quarter to get back in the game. Kamari Talley led the Scarlet Raptors with 15 points and a whopping 19 rebounds in the game. But as the game moved to the fourth she became one of three Camden players to foul out of the contest, leaving no extra players left on the Raptor bench.
The game returned to its first-half pattern in the final quarter, with the Cougars outscoring Camden 19-5 in the period.
Kean's freshman class had a standout night: Todaro and Asabor led the Cougars in rebounding, and Asabor added a game-high five blocks.
Freshman twins Marajiah Bacon and Miesha Bacon also had solid stat lines. Marajiah had 17 points, five assists and five steals, while Miesha added 15 points, three assists and two steals. Additionally, their classmate Tori Schweyher hit 3-of-5 three-pointers for nine points and fellow freshman Danielle Oakley added five.
The Kean defense held the Raptors to 24 percent shooting from the floor and the Cougars had a 23-4 edge in fast-break points in the game.
The Cougars will next head to Rutgers-Newark to take on the Scarlet Raiders on Wednesday, December 9.
