Second-Half Surge Sends Rowan Past Women's Basketball

Glassboro, N.J. (2/7/15)  – The Rowan University women's basketball team picked up a 72-53 against Kean University in NJAC action on Saturday evening. 
 
The Profs are 16-6 overall and 11-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Cougars have a 12-10 overall record with a 7-8 conference mark. 
 
For Kean, center Najha Treadwell scored a game-high 23 points and she grabbed 12 rebounds.  Forward Jazmine Davis registered 10 points and eight rebounds.  Guards AnnaRose Pierre and Shanice Jones added eight and seven points respectively.  Guard Jaquetta Owens dished six assists and Pierre tallied nine boards. 

Guard Bria Hill led Rowan with 18 points.  Center Kate Matthews had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Guard Anyssa Sanchez contributed with 10 points and six boards.  Guard Valerie Garofalo and forward Summer Crilley each had seven points.  Guard Kaitlin Schullstrom pulled down seven boards.
  
The Profs started the second stanza with a 19-2 run to lead stretch out to a 59-39 with 11:51 to go.  Six different players contributed with points and Sanchez led the way with six.  Schullstrom made two foul shots (4:43) for a 27-point advantage (70-43), which was Rowan's biggest lead of the contest.  Kean followed with 10 consecutive points (70-53) but it was too late to mount a comeback.      
 
In the first half, Rowan pushed out to a 22-16 at 9:53 after a jumper by Hill.  The Cougars followed with 10 straight points to lead by four (26-22) with 7:39 remaining.  Treadwell (pictured left) scored eight of the 10 points in the run.  Davis' layup made the score 29-24 (6:05) and later the Cougars had a seven-point advantage (35-28) at the 3:50 mark.  The Profs then recorded a 9-0 run to take the lead 37-35 (1:12).  Treadwell's basket knotted the score at 37 with 1:06 left.  Hill drained a three (0:57), which put the Profs ahead 40-37 at the break.  Treadwell was the leader in the period with 21 points and seven rebounds.  Hill totaled 15 points and Matthews had 11. 

Kean returns home to take on William Paterson University on Wednesday, tipoff is at 6 p.m.
