Claremont, Calif. (3/16/15) – Claremont-Mudd-Scripps raced out to an early lead and held on as the Kean University women's lacrosse team fell by the final of 17-12 in non-conference action on Monday.

After jumping out to a quick 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from senior Maggie Brocklebank, the Athenas (7-0) went on a 13-1 run over the remainder of the half before junior Jordan Blanda broke up the run with a goal with one tick left on the clock as the Cougars headed into the break trailing 13-3.

The teams see-sawed for most of the second half, before Kean ended the contest with four straight in the final three plus minutes to pull within five for the final.

Junior Sam Gnapp finished with a team-high four goals, in addition to an assist while Blanda (pictured left) ended the night with three goals and an assist plus three draw controls.

The Cougars (0-2) will face off against Chapman University on Wednesday to conclude their west coast swing.
