Union, N.J. (4/1/15) – The University of Scranton used nine second-half goals to pull away from the Kean University men's lacrosse team in non-conference action on Wednesday evening by the final of 14-7.
The Royals improve over the .500 mark (6-5) while the loss drops the Cougars to an even 5-5.
The teams flip-flopped outcomes between the first and second quarters as Scranton posted a 4-1 lead after the first 15 minutes, but the Cougars responded with a 3-1 second quarter to pull within one at the break, 5-4. Kean used goals from Eric Talbot, Jeff Christiano and Anthony Rybek to close the gap.
The Royals then sprinted out the break as Alec Mikrut notched back-to-back goals to start a four tally third quarter for Scranton. Anthony Carpenter (pictured left) broke the run to start the fourth quarter but Scranton kept finding the back of the net, adding five more to pull away with the win.
Christiano finished with two goals while Matt Brodley and Mike Singer each posted assists.
Mikrut led all scorers with four goals while teammate Will Mahle registered three goals and two assists.
Kean will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Farmingdale State College in Skyline Conference action.
