JERSEY CITY, N.J. (4/7/15) – For the second-straight season, the No. 5 Kean University men's volleyball team swept through the Skyline Conference and secured the league's regular season crown after dismantling New Jersey City University 3-0 on Tuesday night.
The 2015 and 2014 campaigns are the first two perfect seasons in Skyline Conference history. This year's Cougar team dropped just two sets all year and ended the season on a 42-1set streak.
Kean will be the No.1 seed when the Skyline Conference Tournament starts on Thursday, when the Cougars will host fourth-seeded College of Mount Saint Vincent at 8 p.m. If victorious, Kean will host the Skyline Championship Game on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Cougars (29-4) were led by Kyle Farley and Jacob Kauffman on Tuesday night. Both players had 10 kills each, and Kauffman added a match-best four aces.
Tommy Rosario also had a good night, hitting a team-best .538 with seven kills and two blocks. Freshman Shady Taylor led all players with three blocks on the night.
Ron Dunn handed out 35 assists and put down three kills on five attempts. John Cunningham (pictured left) had a match-high eight digs.
In the game's most pivotal moment, with Kean trailing 14-12 in the third set, Ed Jedziniak got two kills in three points with Taylor serving to flip the lead back to Kean and send the Cougars on their way to the sweep.
John Leon led the Gothic Knights (17-14, 9-5 Skyline) with eight kills.
Kean will be back in action in the first round of the Skyline Tournament at home on Thursday against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 8 p.m.
