11 Cougars Score, Speciale with Hat Trick as Men's Lacrosse Bashes Bard

KINGSTON, N.Y. (4/8/15) – On a raw, stormy day in upstate New York the Kean University men's lacrosse team dominated Bard College15-5 in a game that saw 11 different Kean players score. Junior Matt Speciale led the way with his second hat trick of the season.

Speciale had the night's first goal with an assist from Anthony Carpenter. Bard tied it up a minute later, but then the Cougars rattled off four-straight scores – from the sticks of four different players - to put the game out of reach early.

Kean also had runs of three-straight goals in the second quarter and then five unanswered tallies in the third as they won going away. Carpenter and Speciale hooked up again to provide the game-winner at 14:49 of the second period.

What allowed the Cougars to be so dominant was their faceoff success, and that was due in large part to Mike Criscitello, who won 12-of-15 draws on the night. Jamar Thigpen (3-3, pictured left), Ed Adams (2-3) and Joe Mastro (1-1) were all superb at midfield as well.

Freshman Mark Marchino had his first collegiate goal in the game, and Jeff Christiano scored twice on two shots for Kean. Alec Ramos had a healthy all-around night with a goal and two assists on two shots and two ground balls.

Goaltending was solid for the Cougars too. Maxwell Fields earned the win with 13 saves. Tim Corn and Peter D'Antoni also saw action in the cage on Wednesday.

The Cougars improved to 7-5 on the year. Bard (3-7) was paced by John Palermo, who scored two goals and added an assist for the Raptors.

Kean will return to Skyline Conference action on Friday at 6 p.m. when the team hosts the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
