Women's Lax Powers Past Manhattanville

Purchase, N.Y. (4/9/15) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team held Manhattanville scoreless in the second half on their way to a 19-6 win on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.

Rookie Eliza Clark and junior Jordan Blanda led the way with four goals apiece.  With the win the Cougar record now stands at 3-8 while the loss drops the Valiants to 4-6 this spring.

Kean sprinted out to an early lead, pushing across the first nine goals of the contest.  Junior Sam Gnapp recorded back-to-back tallies in addition to senior Maggie Brocklebank who did the same seven minutes later.  In the final eight minutes of the first half, Manhattanville scored all of their offense, scoring in pairs, including two goals with under a minute to go before the break.  Kean led at halftime, 11-6.

Blanda and Clark each finished with three first half goals while Meghann Haggerty posted four for the Valiants.

The Cougars then cruised through the second half, allowing just five total shots from Manhattanville while holding them scoreless.  Meanwhile, Kean's offense used a balanced attack spreading eight goals across the period in the win.

Gnapp finished with three goals and three assists with four draw controls.  Blanda (pictured left) added two assists with four groundballs and four caused turnovers.

In goal, rookies Nikki Apostolopoulos and Shauna LaMaina split time, tallying a combined five saves.

Kean returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Stockton University for a 7 p.m. start.
