Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener

SCRANTON, Pa. (9/1/15) – The Kean University women's soccer team fell to the University of Scranton 3-1 on Tuesday night. It was the season opener for both teams.

The Royals scored the first three goals of the night, though the match was scoreless for the first half-hour. Christina Akalski changed that with a 20-yard blast from the top of the box that gave Scranton the 1-0 lead. That was the score at halftime, but the Royals scored twice more early in the second to go up by three.

Less than a minute after the final Scranton goal, Kean's Emily Jurcsek scored the Cougars' first goal of 2015 when she converted a penalty kick at 57:50.

Kean goalkeeper KC Nunez (pictured left) made six saves and faced a total of 19 shots. Scranton led the corner kick count 5-0 and did not allow a shot on goal.

The Cougars will be back in action this weekend at the Rutland Herald Invitational in Castleton, Vermont. Kean will square off with Umass-Boston on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
