CASTLETON, Vt. (9/20/15) – Krista LaMaina tied the Kean single-game assist record she set earlier this season and Marissa Robinson notched her first hat trick of the year as the Kean University field hockey team remained undefeated after a 7-1 thrashing of Castleton University on Sunday.
The Cougars are now 9-0 on the season.
Kean got off to a hot start, scoring four first-half goals on penalty corners. Robinson (pictured left) wrapped up her hat trick in the first half, scoring three times - all on assists from Krista LaMaina. LaMaina added a goal of her own in the first, deflecting a shot from Teresa Carr past the Spartan defense and into the back of the cage.
Coming out of the break with a 4-0 lead, the Cougars continued to pull away when Raykena Brown moved around a defender and slotted a shot behind the goalie to make it a five-goal cushion. Kean would stretch their lead once again when Jordan Colna scored on a cross from Krista LaMaina.
The Spartans finally snapped Kean's five-game shutout streak with four minutes left to play, but 20 seconds later Chelsea Mann helped the Cougars assert their dominance with an unassisted goal to wrap up the day's scoring.
Robinson has nine goals this year, and Krista LaMaina has nine assists on the season.
The field hockey team will return home on Tuesday for a date with Marywood University at 7:30 p.m.
