No. 16 Field Hockey's 14-Game Win Streak Snapped by No. 17 Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (10/19/16) – The No. 16 Kean University field hockey team was upended by No. 17 Montclair State University by a 3-1 count on Wednesday night for the Cougars' first loss in 15 games this season.

MSU scored the first two goals of the game, one in the first half and the next early on in the second period. Despite being outshot 20-11 in the game, Kean's goalkeeper Erin Smith made eight saves, and field players Katie-Lynne LussierShauna LaMaina and Krista LaMaina -who had two - each made defensive saves to help keep the Cougars in the game.

At 45:48, Shauna (pictured left) assisted Krista for her 21st goal of the season that cut the Red Hawk lead in half. The Cougars tried to get the equalizer in the final 25 minutes, but Amber Haslett scored an insurance goal with three minutes to go to put the game on ice for the Hawks.

Danielle Butrico and Kaitlyn Struss also scored for MSU. The Red Hawks improved to 12-4 on the year and 4-1 in the NJAC. The Cougars are now 14-1 and 3-1 in the league.

Kean will face another NJAC test on Saturday with a showdown at 1 p.m. against 11-time national champion The College of New Jersey. The Lions are currently ranked No. 7 nationally.
