UNION, N.J. (11/15/16) – The Kean University men's basketball team opened the 2016-17 season with a 103-73 loss to Stevens Institute of Technology at home on Tuesday night. Three Cougars were in double figures, led by Justin Watson's 16 points.

The Ducks were shooting the ball well all night; at one point they were over 60 percent from three-point land late in the first half. Stevens made a total of 12 treys in the first 20 minutes. They finished 22-44 from downtown.
Kean also shot an impressive 50 percent from long range as the team went 13-26 from behind the arc themselves. Tré Gomez finished 4-5 on threes and was second on the team with 12 points.
In his first game back in two seasons, Michael Summerer had a team-best seven rebounds, while freshmen Inderpaul Pinghlia and Denzel Washington (pictured left) both scored in their collegiate debuts. Senior Kevin Grek handed out a game-high five assists.
Kevin Florio and Spencer Cook led the Ducks with 16 points apiece.
The Cougars will travel to Virginia this weekend for the 4th Annual Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament at Marymount University. Kean will take on the host Saints in the opening game on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
