Women's Soccer Falls to Springfield

Springfield, Mass. (11/19/16) - Junior forward Kim Quiles found the back of the net once in each half to lead the Springfield College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Kean University in the ECAC Division III Women's Soccer Championship Semifinals on Saturday.

With the loss the Cougars finish the 2016 season with a 13-9 record.

With the win, the Pride improves to 14-5-3 on the year, and advances to Sunday's ECAC Championship game against #2 New York University.

Springfield College held a 17-9 shot advantage over the course of 90 minutes, while the Pride was also awarded four corner kicks to the Cougars' two. In net, junior goalkeeper Ciara Boucher made two stops, while for Kean, Lauren Healey made three saves in the loss.

It took 23:29 to break the scoreless tie, but Springfield College got on the board when Dakota Kelly gained control of a loose ball in the middle of the field and sent a pass to the right flank, finding Quiles, who drilled a shot into the top right corner to give the Pride a 1-0 lead with 21:31 to play in the half.

With 6:35 remaining in the contest, the Cougars had their best chance of the contest, when Sabrina Pascarella sent in a corner kick that found its way to Jordyn Bronsky, who drilled the crossbar, but the Pride was able to clear the ball to keep Kean off the board.

Just under a minute later, Springfield pushed its lead to a pair when Mary Silva sent a pass into the box that found Quiles, who took a shot on cage, which was saved, but the junior picked up her own rebound and tucked a shot into the right side of the net to make it 2-0, Pride, with 5:12 remaining.

Showing its resiliency, Kean pressed the Pride's cage late in the contest, and finally broke through when Pascarella sent a pass to Bronsky (pictured left), who finished her chance to make it 2-1 with 3:24 to play. Springfield was able to fend off the late rally and seal the one-goal win.
