Fourth Quarter Sends Women's Hoops Past NJCU

Jersey City, N.J. (2/1/16) – Rookie Marajiah Bacon scored a game-high 29 points while playing all 40 minutes as she lead the Kean University women's basketball team to their second straight comeback win.

Monday night's win was by the final of 58-49 in a rescheduled contest against New Jersey City University in what was originally on tap for Saturday, January 22nd

In addition to her 29 points, Ma. Bacon added five rebounds, five assists and four steals in the all-around effort.  Teammate Ruby Asabor recorded a career-high 12 blocks good for 76 so far this season.  With at least five games to go, Asabor has broken the single-season block mark (previously held by Tiffany Patrick with 74).

Poor shooting plagued the Cougars (13-7, 8-5 NJAC) who found themselves trailing 23-8 after the first 10 minutes.  Kean headed into the break in foul trouble and trailing NJCU (1-18, 0-13 NJAC) by 10.

Kean turned the corner and picked up their first lead of the night early in the fourth quarter as freshman Diana Todaro converted a Knight turnover into a 42-40 lead.  Thirty seconds later Ma. Bacon gave the Cougars the lead for good.

The Cougars were able to take advantage of 32 NJCU turnovers, netting 31 points off of them.  Kean also dominated in fast break points (18-4).

Kean returns right back to action on Wednesday when they host Rutgers-Newark at 6 p.m.
