Jaquetta Owens – who finished with 23 points to lead Kean - scored seven of the Cougars' first 11 points as Kean went up by seven after just five minutes. The two clubs combined to shoot just 28 percent in the first quarter, but Owens helped the Cougars build a 16-10 advantage.

TCNJ's Taryn Corrigan scored the first six points of the second quarter to square the contest at 16 with seven minutes to go in the half. TCNJ doubled up the Cougars 20-10 in the second quarter to take a four-point lead into the locker room.

The Lions (13-12, 9-9 NJAC) scored 10 points in less than two minutes to start the second half and built a new largest lead of 12. From there, the Lion lead continued to grow, all the way to 21 at the start of the fourth quarter.

The Kean defense – led by Ruby Asabor with six blocks - held the Lions to just eight fourth-quarter points to swing the momentum. Marajiah Bacon, Miesha Bacon and Owens put on a show, combining for 27 second-half points to help the Cougars claw back.

Asabor's block got Kean the ball with eight seconds to go and down by just three, but the Cougars' bid to tie clanged off the iron, TCNJ grabbed the rebound and time ran out.

Kean's Diana Todaro (pictured left) had an impressive 19 rebounds in the game, setting a new career high and tying Asabor for the most boards by any Cougar in a game this season. TCNJ's Angelica Esposito led all players with 29 points on the night.

The Cougars will host the opening round of the 2016 NJAC Tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m. against William Paterson University. Kean is the tournament's four-seed.
