BROOKLYN, N.Y. (2/20/16) – The Kean University men's volleyball team swept through Skyline Conference opponents St. Joseph's – Brooklyn and Sage in three-set wins on Saturday. The Cougars are now 10-5 on the year, 4-0 in the Skyline conference and are on a five-match win streak.
Kean men's volleyball took three straight sets from the St. Joseph's College Bears, 25-10, 25-10 and 25-13 on Saturday morning.
Cougar freshman Nicholas Buseski (pictured left) led the team with 14 kills and a .650 hitting percentage. Buseski also had 3 blocks in the match. Tommy Rosario finished with a .700 kill percentage, eight kills and an assist. Nico Mercadante was not far behind with 5 kills and 3 aces. Steve Schrank and Bill Fischer finished with a pair of blocks.
Thomas Kennedy led the Bears with 4 kills.
Sage had a bit more fire, playing the Cougars to their closest set of the day in a 25-22 third. The Gators closed to within one at 21-20, but Rosario put one down and a Sage error got the Cougars all the breathing room they would need.
Jacob Kauffman and Rosario both reached double-digit kills against the Gators – Rosario hit .647 in the match. Kevin Barrow dished out 38 assists, Nick Breslin posted 10 digs and Kauffman racked up a whopping six aces to help keep Sage at bay. The set scores in the match were 25-16, 25-14, 25-22. Bailey Cecchi had eight kills for Sage.
The Gators fell to 4-12 and 1-2 in the Skyline. St. Joe's is 1-5 and 0-3 in the league.
The Cougars will next tangle with Ramapo College in a rematch of last season's Skyline Championship Match. Gametime is at 7p.m. on Wednesday in Mahwah.
