Lajas, P.R. (3/11/16) – The Kean University baseball exploded for 18 hits on their way to a 9-7 win over Arcadia University on Friday morning.
The win caps the spring break trip to Puerto Rico for the Cougars who now stand with a 7-6 overall record. Arcadia falls to 6-3, for their first loss of this spring break trip.
The Cougars provided most of their offense in the first inning, plating six runs on seven hits, while also benefitting from two Arcadia miscues. Senior Ryan Reitmeyer lined a two RBI double down the line as part of the surge.
Kean added two more in the sixth, all with two outs. The Cougars once again took advantage of a miscue and senior Sal Taormina capped the inning with an RBI double.
Another Arcadia error added insurance in the eighth and despite a late minute rally the Cougars were able to end the trip on a winning note with the win.
Relief pitcher Ian Fitzgerald notched the win after tossing two and two thirds innings with four hits. Senior Chris Amato picked up the save for his second of the season.
Offensively, sophomore Matt Krupa (pictured left) was 4-for-4 while Ryan Kelley and Taormina each had three hits.
Kean returns home to New Jersey and will face Salisbury University on Tuesday.
