Men's Lacrosse Plays 2-OT Heartbreaker in Texas

GEORGETOWN, Texas (3/12/16) – The Kean University men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-9, double-overtime game to Southwestern University on Saturday in Texas. It was the first loss for the Cougars this season.

Freshman Joe Norton scored a game-tying goal with just 2:14 left in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime. The first extra period went by without a goal, but Southwestern's Matthew Montagne scored with just five seconds remaining in the second overtime period to win the game for the Pirates.

Kean's Maxwell Fields made 11 saves on 21 Pirate shots, keeping Kean in the game. Throughout the tight contest neither team was ever up by more than two goals, and there were seven lead changes and six ties.

Anthony Carpenter and Brian Mills (pictured left) had two goals each for the Cougars, while Austin Fox recorded the game's only hat trick for Southwestern.

Ed Adams won 17-of-22 faceoffs for Kean, and Carpenter scooped up six groundballs. Carpenter was also the only player on the Kean side to have more than one assist.

Kean will return north and play one more neutral-site game on Saturday, March 19 against SUNY Potsdam in Syracuse, New York – about halfway between Potsdam and Union. First faceoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
