Farmingdale, N.Y. (3/16/16) – Farmingdale State College used a five run eighth inning to pull past the Kean University baseball team on Wednesday afternoon.
Farmingdale (1-6) earned their first win of the season after rallying with no runners on and two outs in the eighth to break a five-all deadlock. The loss drops Kean to 8-7 this spring.
It was a see-saw affair as neither team was able to push out to a comfortable lead. The Cougars plated single runs in the second, fourth and sixth with a two spot in the fifth.
Kean got on the board first as Sal Taormina doubled to start the second. Andy Lopez drove him home with a single for the game's first run. Trailing 2-1 in the fourth, the Cougars tied things up as Taormina walked and moved to third on a Matt Krupa double. It was Lopez again who followed with an RBI single.
The Cougars took the lead (4-2) after stringing together three straight hits with an RBI single from Chris Amato and a throwing miscue from the Rams.
An RBI double from Ryan Reitmeyer in the sixth gave Kean their last lead of the day, putting them on top 5-4.
With two outs and no one aboard the Rams rallied and pieced together five runs and five hits with two walks (one intentional).
Offensively Lopez was 2-for-3 with two RBI while Taormina (pictured left) was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
Kean stays on the road and will travel to Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday.
