SCRANTON, Pa. (3/30/16) – The Kean University men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-8 decision to the University of Scranton on the road on Wednesday night. The Cougars scored two goals in the final minute to nearly complete the comeback.
The Cougars (5-3) have lost three games this year by a combined margin of six goals.
Kean was winning the game 6-2 midway through the second quarter. But until those two last-minute tallies, the Royals owned the second half and ripped off seven-straight unanswered goals to completely flip the momentum of the game.
Eric Talbot posted a hat trick for the Cougars on Wednesday and Matt Speciale had three assists for Kean. Matt Brodley and Anthony Carpenter both lit the lamp two times as well.
Goaltender Maxwell Fields made nine saves and also led the team with eight ground balls on the night. Speciale added seven and Ed Adams had five. Lucas Kiernan (pictured left) won the only faceoff he was in on and Brodley was the only Kean defender to cause multiple turnovers.
Alec Mikrut, Matt Carfaro and Andrew Marone all scored twice for Scranton, which improved to 8-2 with the win. Kean outshot the Royals 41-34.
The Cougars will return home on Saturday to begin Skyline Conference play against SUNY Maritime at 4 p.m.
