GEORGETOWN, Texas (3/8/16) – Anthony Carpenter and Joe Norton both notched hat tricks as the Kean University men's lacrosse team downed Trine University 11-7 on Tuesday night in Texas.
The Cougars methodically ground down Trine throughout the game, winning each of the first two quarters by a 3-1 margin for a 6-2 lead at the break. Though the Thunder got a man-down goal less than a minute into the game, after that Kean scored 11 of the next 15 goals over the course of the game.
The second half was tighter – both teams scored five times – but Trine scored two late goals to get the final score to appear closer than the game may have been.
The Cougars outshot Trine 44-25 and won two-thirds of the game's faceoffs thanks to Ed Adams and his game-best 12 ground balls.
Kean was also disruptive defensively, spoiling four clear attempts and forcing 17 turnovers. Mike Cestaro was the only player on either side to cause multiple opponent turnovers.
Maxwell Fields made six saves on 13 shots on goal to earn his third victory of the season. Anthony Perrotta added a goal and two assists and Eric Talbot put up two goals as well. Chris Ward had a hat trick for the Thunder.
The Cougars are now 3-0, while Trine fell to 0-2.
Kean will be back in action on Thursday in another neutral-site game in Georgetown, Texas against Misericordia University at 4 p.m.
