UNION, N.J. (4/2/16) – Junior Dana Knapp went a combined 5-6 with six RBIs and three extra-basehits as the Kean University softball team dominated New Jersey City University 8-1 and 8-0 on Saturday. It was the first NJAC action of the year for both teams.
The Cougar lineup worked like clockwork to start: Olivia Zengel dropped a bunt single and Emily Sabo worked a walk. Both players stole bases and Knapp, the cleanup hitter, ripped a line-drive RBI double to the wall to stake Kean to a 2-0 lead.

The Cougars never looked back after that. NJAC managed just one run over 12 innings. Kiele Eichlin pitched all seven innings in game one and struck out eight, while Shannon McMahon earned her second shutout of the season and struck out five in her five-frame complete game.
Sabo, Sara Vocisano (pictured left) and Amanda Berezny all hit .500 on the day for Kean, with Berezny driving in three and knocking her first homerun of the season. It was a towering drive over the scoreboard in leftfield.
Earlier in game two, Knapp muscled the ball the other way over the right field fence and off the Carole Hynes Field House for her sixth homerun of the season. The Kean single-season record is seven homeruns by Sara Steinman in 2007.
Freshmen Zengel and Samantha Krakower added multiple-hit days to the Cougar attack. 10 different Kean players earned at least one of the team's 22 hits. Kean has now won six in a row and halted the Gothic Knights' eight-game win streak.
The Cougars' game against Fairleigh Dickinson University at Florham originally scheduled for Sunday has been postponed due to the inclement weather forecast. The teams will look to reschedule the games at a later date.
