Men's Lacrosse Drops Skyline Semifinal

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (5/4/16) – The Kean University men's lacrosse team fell in the Skyline Conference Semifinals to top-seed Montclair State University by a count of 17-3 on Wednesday night.

Kean goaltender Maxwell Fields (pictured left) tied his career-best with 19 saves in his final collegiate game.

Matt Brodley made an incredible play for Kean's first goal. The faceoff was still loose as the ball rolled toward the Montclair cage. About five yards away from the goal line, Brodley was in a scrum with six other players. He was pushed over in the melee, but as he was going to the turf he managed to corral the ground ball and, in the same motion, re-direct it past the goalkeeper.

22 seconds later, after Ed Adams won the faceoff cleanly, Brodley set up Matt Speciale in the slot to cut the Red Hawk lead down to two after MSU had scored the first four goals.

But other than that burst at the end of the first quarter, the night belonged to Montclair. Connor Cunningham had a hat trick by halftime as the Red Hawks led 9-2.

Cunningham finished with a game-high four goals and Brett Mangan added a hat trick for the Red Hawks (11-6). MSU will host the Skyline Championship Game on Saturday afternoon.

Eric Talbot had the other Kean goal with an assist from Anthony Perrotta at 9:41of the third quarter. Montclair outshot Kean 48-14 in the game.

The Cougars will end the 2016 campaign with an 11-7 record after making their program-record 11th-straight postseason appearance.
