PURCHASE, N.Y. (9/7/16) – The Kean University men's soccer team demolished Purchase College 8-0 on Wednesday night to extend its shutout streak to 256 minutes. Eight different Cougars scored in the game, and there were nine assists, with freshman Jake Santos handing out three of them.
Kean's aggregate score so far in four games this year is 14-1. After surrendering the first goal of the season, the Cougars have now scored 14 unanswered.
Wednesday's outcome was never in doubt. Robert Barrera scored six minutes into the game on the only unassisted marker of the night. Sev Kherlopian set up Kenny Rocha four minutes later for the second goal.
Transfer Kazari Trought scored his first goal for Kean at 19:40, with both Santos and Phil Lopes assisting. Santos (pictured left) also assisted on Kean's fourth goal from Michael Vargas at 25:20.
Santos put one in himself to cap the first-period scoring at 41:24 with help from Pablo Valle. Kean took 24 shots in the first half alone.
Trought fed Jelani Williams three minutes into the second half as Kean kept up the tempo. Mathias Patino then scored with assists from Erick Reyes and Santos at 61:28 and Antoine Gbamou capped the scoring with his first collegiate goal at 78:47. He was assisted by Ishmael Soria.
The Cougars (3-1) outshot Purchase 37-9 in the game. Brad Watkins was part of his third-straight shutout and made four saves. Derek Phells played with final 19 minutes in goal and made a stop.
Purchase fell to 0-3 on the year.
Kean will next take part in the Ciallela Soccer Classic this weekend in Camden. The first game will be against the College at Brockport on Saturday at 2 p.m.
