MONTCLAIR, N.J. (1/18/17) – The Kean University women's basketball team fell to No. 17 Montclair State University 75-58 in a battle for first place in the NJAC on Wednesday night. Both teams came into the contest with 7-1 records in the league.
The Red Hawks led wire-to-wire, thanks partially to a 54-38 edge in rebounding. Katie Sire posted a double-double with 27 points and 14 rebounds and Katie Tobie had one too with 12 points and 10 assists to lead Montclair.
For the Cougars, Kenya Adams (pictured left) turned in a seven-point, 11-rebound performance and Marajiah Bacon had 31 points. She also made all three of Kean's three-pointers. Jaquetta Owens also hit double figures (14) and led the team with four assists.
Ruby Asabor was dominant in the paint and racked up six blocks for the Cougars. Kean won the turnover battle 12-9. The Cougars are now 10-6 and 7-2 in the NJAC. MSU improved to 15-1 and 8-1 in the league.
Kean will return home on Saturday to face The College of New Jersey in another NJAC matchup at 3 p.m.
