Union, N.J. (10/21/17) - The Kean University Women's soccer team fell to #2 The College of New Jersey by a final of 7-0 on Saturday afternoon.
TCNJ (15-0, 8-0) jumped out to a very quick lead after just 17 seconds of play. Jessica Goldman carried the ball up the left sideline and sent a cross to the center of the box. The cross found Christine Levering, who headed the ball to the bottom right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Just minutes later, the Lions were set up with a corner on the far side of the field. After the ball was sent into the box, Devon McDonough fired a shot that was blocked by the Cougar defense. The ball deflected to the feet of Kelly Carolan, who quickly sent a shot past the keeper and to the back of the net, making the score 2-0.
TCNJ added to their lead with 4 more goals in the first half from Hannah Richman, Julianna Bertolino, and two from Alexa Beatty, making the score 6-0 going into the break.
In the second half, TCNJ scored their seventh goal of the day with a set play on a corner kick. Alexandria Weaver made a short pass to Faith Eichenour, who then passed the ball back to Weavery. Weaver took a touch and then ripped a shot from just outside the 18 and into the top of the goal, making the final score 7-0.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday as the travel to Ramapo College for their final regular season game of the year.
