Willimantic, Conn. (10/24/17) – The Kean University field hockey team collected their 11th shutout of the season in a 5-0 win over Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday night.
#9 Kean (17-1) scored three times in the last eight plus minutes to pull away with their last non-conference regular season win of the season.
The Cougars led 2-0 at halftime on the 21st and 22nd goals of the season from senior Krista LaMaina in the first 13 minutes of action. Kean was unable to break through against sophomore goalie Madison Renaud for the next 48 minutes before getting a pair of goals from Teresa Carr and one from Jenna Patrone in the final 8:27 to down the Warriors (7-9) in the first meeting ever between the programs.
Renaud was making her collegiate debut after joining the team and practicing once in place of injured senior Maddie LaRusso. She made six saves.
Kean outshot Eastern, 15-2 and had 11 penalty corners against none for Eastern.
The Cougars close out the regular season on Saturday when they host William Paterson University at 4 p.m. (note new time).
