Women's Basketball Survives in Defeat of Ramapo

UNION, N.J. (12/9/17)- Marajiah Bacon finished with 26 points, six rebounds and six assists as the Kean University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College, 65-58 on Saturday afternoon.

Payce Lange finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Cougars who improve to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Jenna Harsh made seven triples and finished with 31 points for the Roadrunners who fall to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the NJAC.

Kean led for most of the first half behind 19 points from Bacon. The Cougars used an 8-0 run to take a 24-17 lead on a Bacon jumper with 7:57 remaining in the second quarter. Kean eventually stretched their advantage to as large as eight at 27-19 with 6:09 to play. Ramapo answered with a 7-0 run that put the Roadrunners within striking distance at 27-26. A bacon layup and a Latice Cunningham layup with four seconds remaining gave the Cougars a 36-32 lead at intermission.

In the second half, Kean stretched their advantage to 46-36 with 5:52 remaining in the third. Ramapo responded with a 16-6 run to even the contest at 52-52 on a Harsh triple with 4:54 remaining. Kean answered on the very next trip down the floor when Miesha Bacon knocked down a three-pointer to give the Cougars a 55-52 lead with 4:17 remaining. The RoadRunners regained the lead one last time, before a Danielle Oakley triple with 39 seconds left put Kean back in front for good.

The Cougars finished the game on an 8-0 run, including icing the contest from the free-throw line.

Mi. Bacon finished with 13 points and made four three-pointers, while Oakley tallied seven points and five rebounds in the victory. Bridgette Buckalew totaled six points, six assists and five rebounds in the loss for Ramapo.

Head Coach Mandy King and the Cougars will return to action in St. David's, Pa. on Saturday, Dec. 16th, against the Eagles of Eastern University at 1:00 p.m.
