Women's Basketball Avenges Monday Defeat with Double-Digit win Over Camden

UNION, N.J. (2/4/17) – The Kean University women's basketball team delivered payback to NJAC rival Rutgers-Camden with an 82-66 win at home on Saturday after the Scarlet Raptors had won when the teams got together earlier in the week on Monday.

Kean improved to 15-7 on the year and remains in second place in the NJAC. The Cougars can clinch a first-round NJAC bye with a win at Stockton University next Saturday.

Danielle Oakley had an impressive game off the bench for the Cougars; the sophomore poured in 18 points, with five rebounds, two assists, two steals and no turnovers while shooting 50 percent from the floor.

Marajiah Bacon (pictured left) had a game-high 22 points, while De'Mean Bond had 16 boards and just missed a double-double with nine points.

Jaquetta Owens also had a fine performance and nearly earned a double-double herself with nine points and eight assists, plus five steals.

The Cougars dominated two categories in the game: points off turnovers (24-4) and transition points (22-4). Kean nearly doubled up their guests in the turnover department 21-11 and had nearly three times as many steals (13-5).

Payce Lange added eight points for the Cougars on 2-4 shooting, while Ruby Asabor grabbed six rebounds and swatted five shots away. Miesha Bacon chipped in with six points, Kenya Adams had five and Alexa Vreeland hit two free throws late in the game for Kean.

Camden was paced by Jovan Childers off the bench with 24 points. The Raptors fell to 13-9 and 7-8 in the league.

The Cougars will have their final regular season home game and host Senior Day against NJAC rival Rowan University on Wednesday night.
