No. 14 Softball Suffers First Sweep of the Season

WAYNE, N.J. (4/14/17) – The No. 14 Kean University softball team was outdueled by NJAC rival William Paterson University by scores of 2-1 and 4-0 in a Good Friday matinee.

Senior Shannon McMahon endured her first loss of the season in game one when the Pioneers walked off with the game-winning RBI by Kayla Molnar in the seventh.

Kean had scored in the top of the first inning of the day when Caroline Ratti (pictured left) singled and Dana Knapp brought her in with a two-out RBI triple. But after that, William Paterson pitching posted 13-straight scoreless innings to earn the sweep.

Gabrielle Castelli edged out McMahon in game one. Both hurlers are now 12-1 on the year. Allison Podmajersky earned the game two shutout for the Pioneers.

Ratti, Knapp, Cayleen Rizo and Emily Sabo all had hits in game two for the Cougars. Paterson got RBIs from four different players in game two.

Kean is now 21-5 on the season and 6-4 in the NJAC. Paterson improved to 20-6 and is now 10-0 in the league.

The Cougars will return home on Tuesday to host Rutgers-Newark at 3 p.m.
