Staten Island, N.Y. (9/20/17) – The Kean University women's soccer team breezed to a 5-1 win over the College of Staten Island on Wednesday in non-conference action.
The loss is the first for the Dolphins (5-1-1) while the win improves the Cougars to 6-2 on the year.
The Cougars and Dolphins battled it out in the first half for an even 50-50 split in the time of possession with Kean finding their way onto the scoreboard first. Within the first seven minutes of the game, a miscue for the Dolphins' defense led to a Sabrina Sirni goal to put Kean up 1-0. The beginning of this afternoon's game was a repeat of last year's matchup as Kean scored in the first six minutes of that matchup. The Dolphins were able to knot it up at one when Ashley Hunter headed the ball into the goal after bouncing around inside the six after a corner kick.
With just one minute left in the half, Sabrina Pascarella collected a loose ball inside the six and tucked it underneath Maraya Jones to take a 2-1 lead.
Just five minutes into the second period, Pascarella once again found the back of the net to increase Kean's lead to 3-1. The Cougars were able to capitalize twice more with the surge in momentum. The Cougars held CSI to no shots in the second half while cruising to the win.
Kean returns to NJAC action on Wednesday when they travel to Rutgers-Newark.
