First Half Surge Sends Rutgers-Newark Past Men's Basketball

Newark, N.J. (11/28/18) – Rutgers-Newark used a late first half surge that stood up as they defeated the Kean University men's basketball team by the final of 77-61 on Wednesday night in NJAC action.

Jailen Jamison led the Cougars (1-5, 0-2 NJAC) with a game-high 17 points while adding five assists, four rebounds and four steals.  Chase Barneys led the Scarlet Raiders (4-1, 1-1 NJAC) with 15 points as one of five players in double digits on the night.

Rutgers-Newark used a 13-0 run late in the first half, turning a one point advantage into a double-digit lead.  The Scarlet Knights led by as many as 21 points early in the second stanza and held on to a double digit advantage for the final 20 minutes.

Micah Kerr finished with nine points and four rebounds while Nate Lyles registered eight points and five rebounds.  Rookie Rob Scott provided seven rebounds off the bench and starters Jodrell Thompson, Kendall Blount and Jared Latane each contributed with seven points.

Kean returns home to face Montclair State University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
