KISSIMMEE, Fla. (3/15/18)- Jacqueline Riley collected two victories as the #17 Kean University softball team closed out their Florida trip with victories over Millsaps College and Utica College on Thursday evening.
Kean 4, Millsaps 0
Riley improved to 2-0 with a complete game victory over Millsaps College. The junior struck out three batters, while only allowing one hit in the shutout victory.
Katie Debbie went 1-for-2 with two RBI's and two runs scored, while both Cayleen Rizo and Olivia Zengel recorded two hits apiece. Debbie tallied both RBI's in the first when she doubled down the left field line to score Julie Raba and Maria Bonfanti.
Debbie was driven home in the third and the fifth when Erin Hollyfield singled through the left side and Riley hit a sacrifice groundout.
Kean 8, Utica 7 (8 Inn.)
The Cougars needed extra innings to close out their stay in the Sunshine State. Five players had multi-hits, including Raba going 4-for-5 and Rizo going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI's.
Kean took a commanding 5-1 lead when Rizo doubled down the left field line and then was driven home when Riley singled to right center. The Pioneers eventually tied the contest at 5-5 in the sixth with a solo homerun and a two-RBI single.
After each team scored two runs apiece, including a second homerun from Utica in the seventh, the game entered extra innings deadlocked at 7-7. In the eighth, the Cougars were able to score the winning run when Hollyfield singled to right field to score Rizo, who was placed on second to start the bottom half of the inning.
Riley improved to 3-0 after making a relief appearance for Kaitlin Stahlbrand. Riley struck out one and allowed two earned runs in two innings pitched.
Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action in Annville, Pa. on Wednesday, Mar. 21st, against the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
