UNION, N.J. (3/31/18)- Kaitlin Stahlbrand went 2-for-4 with three RBI's, two runs scored, a homerun and a double as the #22 Kean University softball team swept Ramapo College in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars improve to 16-2 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC, while the RoadRunners fall to 9-7 overall and 0-2 in the NJAC.
GAME 1: Kean 3, Ramapo 2
Olivia Zengel, Erin Hollyfield, and Jacqueline Riley all went 2-for-4 as Riley hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Cougars their first NJAC victory of the season.
Kean trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the fourth when back-to-back RBI's from Stahlbrand and Maria Bonfanti evened the contest at 2-2.
The game remained deadlocked at 2-2 into the seventh. After recording two outs and a Hollyfield double to left center, Riley stepped to the plate and drove in Tatiana Yourstone with an RBI single to right field.
Riley improved to 5-1 overall with two strikeouts in the complete-game victory.
GAME 2: Kean 2, Ramapo 1
Stahlbrand went 1-for-2 with a homerun, two RBI's and a run scored as Kean extended their winning streak to six games with a 2-1 victory over the RoadRunners. Julie Raba, Cayleen Rizo, and Samantha Krakower also tallied a hit as the Cougars scattered just four hits in the one-run victory.
Kean had tallied no runs and only one hit when the game entered the bottom of the fifth. After back-to-back strikeouts and a single by Krakower, Stahlbrand smacked a two-run homer over the left field wall and propelled the Cougars to a 2-0 lead.
The RoadRunners were able to regain a run in the sixth with an RBI double from Christina Brizek, but Ramapo then went hitless for the rest of the game as Stahlbrand also improved to 6-1 with four strikeouts in the circle.
Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action in Montclair, N.J. on Tues. Apr. 3rd, against the Red Hawks of Montclair State University for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
