Softball Splits Doubleheader with Nationally-Ranked Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. (4/22/18)- Cayleen Rizo went 4-for-8 with three doubles and two RBI's as the Kean University softball team split a doubleheader with the #21 Profs of Rowan University on Sunday afternoon.

Game 1: Kean 6, Rowan 3

Olivia Zengel went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Julie Raba went 2-for-4 with a run scored as the Cougars (23-8, 8-5 NJAC) led from start to finish in the game one victory over the Profs (25-7-1, 9-4 NJAC).

Kean vaulted to a 6-0 lead through the first six innings with three runs on three hits in both the fourth and the sixth. Tatiana Yourstone and Maria Bonfanti both tallied RBI's in the fourth, while Zengel and Rizo collected RBI's in the sixth.

The Profs were able to get three runs back in the bottom of the sixth, but the Cougars still led 6-3 entering the seventh inning. Rowan was unable to get any additional runs in the seventh as Jacqueline Riley improved to 8-5 with three strikeouts in the complete-game victory.

Game 2: Rowan 6, Kean 1

Rizo went 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Profs (26-7-1, 10-4 NJAC) held the Cougars (23-9, 8-6 NJAC) to one run on seven hits in the game two loss.

Rowan scored six runs on five hits through the first six innings as the Profs took a 6-0 lead. Kean finally got a run across the dish in the seventh, when Rizo hit an RBI double to score Zengel.

Despite tallying seven hits, the Cougars left nine runners on base in the nightcap loss.

Kaitlin Stahlbrand fanned one batter and fell to 10-4 overall. Lauren Shannon improved to 11-1 overall with seven strikeouts in the victory for the Profs.

Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action in Galloway, N.J. on Tuesday, Apr. 24th, against the Ospreys of Stockton University for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
