UNION, N.J. (4/28/18)- Julie Raba smacked a three-run homer in the nightcap of a doubleheader sweep of Rutgers-Camden on Senior Day.
GAME 1: Kean 3, Rutgers-Camden 1
Katie Debbie went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Cayleen Rizo went 2-for-3 as the Cougars (25-10, 10-7 NJAC) collected their 10th NJAC victory with the two-run decision over the Scarlet Raptors (10-20, 3-14 NJAC).
Kean scored three runs on only six hits as the Cougars notched single runs in the first and the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Debbie singled to score Olivia Zengel in the first and Kaitlin Stahlbrand drove in Tatiana Yourstone in the fourth.
After Camden got their first run of the afternoon in the top half of the sixth, Kean scored an insurance run when Debbie, who singled to get on, scored after a wild pitch and a catcher's throwing error.
Jacqueline Riley improved to 10-5 overall after striking out five batters in the complete-game victory.
GAME 2: Kean 5, Rutgers-Camden 1
Raba finished 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI's and two runs scored, while Stahlbrand went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored as Raba tallied her first collegiate home run to propel the Cougars (26-10, 11-7 NJAC) to a sweep of the Scarlet Raptors (10-21, 3-15 NJAC).
Kean already led 2-0 entering the sixth, after Stahlbrand singled up the middle to score Debbie in the first and Raba scored on a wild pitch in the fifth, when Raba went yard with a three-RBI home run that scored Stahlbrand and Samantha Krakower. Kean remained in the driver's seat with a commanding 5-0 lead.
Rutgers did get a run across in the seventh, but it didn't make a difference in the final score.
Stahlbrand fanned four batters and improved to 11-5 with the complete game victory.
Before the game, Head Coach Margie Acker and her staff honored Katie Garbarino, Lexi Oakley, Kacie Worswick, MacKenzie Valeriani, and Rizo for their hard work and dedication to the program.
Kean will return to action next week in the 2018 NJAC softball tournament, beginning on Tuesday, May 1st.
