Union, N.J. (5/6/18) – The Kean University baseball team fell in the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament by the final of 13-8 on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars finish the season with a record of 21-23.
It was a see-saw affair with big innings proving to be the difference in the end.
Trailing 8-4, the Cougars pushed across single runs in the sixth and seventh to pull within two (8-6). Brandon Johannessen manufactured his run as he singled to start off the inning. He advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a groundout and came around to score on another wild pitch. In the seventh senior Matt Krupa led off with a single and moved all the way to third on an errant throw by the pitcher on a failed pickoff attempt. Nick Polizzano singled him home to put the score at 8-6.
The Profs (32-9) then took advantage of three Cougar miscues and a passed ball to plate five runs in the eighth and put the game out of reach.
Kean outhit the Profs, 15-14 with both teams committing four errors on the day.
Offensively, Krupa was 4-for-5 and finishes third all-time in career hits. Sophomore Frank LoGiudice was 3-for-5 with two RBI and Johannessen was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.
