#4 Men's Volleyball Splits Second Day of Clash at Kean

UNION, N.J. (1/26/19)- The #4 Kean University men's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the second day of the 2019 Clash at Kean.

#4 Kean 3, Rivier 2 (21-25, 26-24, 21-25, 25-21, 15-11)

The Cougars (5-1) went the distance with winless Rivier University (0-3) in the day two opener.  Jake Milnazik finished with 11 kills and a .474 hitting percentage, while Ian Capp nearly collected a double-double with nine kills and 22 assists.

The match entered the deciding set after both squads traded sets. The Raiders captured sets one and three with identical 25-21 scores, while Kean posted a 26-24 victory in set two and a 25-21 victory in set four.

The fifth set saw Kean race out to a 9-1 advantage and never look back. Adam Casper and Capp served for eight different points during the run. Rivier made a run late and cut the Cougars lead to 12-10, but Kean closed out the match with back-to-back setter to setter kills by Capp from Zach Gerken.

Steven Zarzycki finished with nine kills, while Dylan Flor tallied seven.

Francis Kokoros led the Raiders with 12 kills.

#14 Endicott 3, #4 Kean 2 (25-20, 23-25, 16-25, 25-13, 15-13)

The Cougars (5-2) also went the distance in the nightcap with nationally ranked Endicott University (3-2). Milnazik totaled 14 kills, while Nick Buseski finished with 12. After falling behind in the opening set, Kean rallied to capture sets two and three with 25-23 and 25-16 scores. Endicott forced the deciding set with a dominating 25-13 victory in set four.

The fifth set went back and forth with both sides trading points. The Gulls committed a service error which squared everything up at 13-13. Endicott would finish it off with back-to-back kills.  

Capp filled up the stat sheet again with 35 assists, 13 digs, and six kills. Kamil Garbowski totaled 10 kills and a .444 hitting percentage. Jonathan Meyer collected 10 digs.

Bryn Lipton led the Gulls with 14 kills.

Head Coach Charlie Ginex and the Cougars will return to action in Fairfield, Conn. on Wednesday, Jan. 30th, against the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University at 6:00 p.m.
