Union, N.J. (10/30/19) – The Kean University women's soccer team ended their season with a 2-1 loss to Montclair State University on Wednesday night.
The Cougars finish the season with an 8-9-1 overall mark and 3-5-1 record in the NJAC. The Red Hawks improve to 12-5-2 and 7-1-1 in league play and earn the second seed in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament which begins on Saturday. As the second seed MSU earns a bye in the opening round.
MSU jumped on top in the 15th minute as Samantha Senatore redirected a pass down the center of the field on a small breakaway that found Emily DeGeyter on the right hash who fired in the game's first goal.
Kean tied it up in the 29th minute as Lauren Jurcsek was fouled at the top of the box. Fellow senior Deana Abdou took the opportunity and scored the penalty kick goal.
The score would remain that way until midway through the second half as the combo of Senatore and DeGeyter scored what would be the game winner. Senatore lofted a corner volley that found the feet of DeGeyter in front of the net. She fired home through traffic for a 2-1 score.
The Red Hawks led in corner kicks (8-0) and overall shots (17-7). Marissa Cook finished with four saves for the Cougars.
